Honey Bees in our backyard

Honey Bees....
Made a home in an old vintage trunk
in our back yard.

Over 10,00 honey bees....

When Ken the beekeeper opened the
lid of the trunk the whole comb
collapsed!

He did manage
to save some combs to take home.

Ken is looking for the baby bees that will
be transported into this temporary
frame kit.

Look at those honeycombs filled
with nectar and honey!!

Ken was kind enough to leave
us with some honeycombs for
us to extract the nectar and honey.

He then used some sort of
vaccum to suck up all those
bees to take home.

He did say that the bees are not harmed
while doing this.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
the honey is so fresh and tasty, especially
when it's from your own back yard.

It was a great educational experience...
my son and I were full of questions and Ken
was so patient with us and the bees.

I am seriously considering starting
a beekeeping hobby...
AFTER Fancy Flea of course.

Gateleg table

I normally like to paint my furniture
but my hubby insisted I keep the
original look.

The top was sanded to remove the old varnish.

I used several coats of Howard's Restor-A-Finish on the top
along with AS dark wax.

The leg area was so dull that I used Howard's Feed-N- Wax.
I love, love this stuff, it contains beeswax and Orange oil....seriously...
the furniture looks great when you use Feed-N-Wax!!

Less than 2 weeks for Fancy Flea in Lakeland...
I hope some of you can make it.
I am on the corner of Lemon and Kentucky!!

Have a great week,

Hoosier cabinet

Happy October!!!

I was lucky enough to find
a 1920/30's Hoosier cabinet.

But as you can see it needs a lot
of TLC....removing the wallpaper...

removing the material lined shelves
along with the staples...ugh!!

Don't you love all that storage??

The bottom right corner is made out of tin...
pretty nifty!!

Cooling racks for those yummy
pies...

The wallpaper was removed but now
I have the wallpaper glue to deal
with....yep!!...it's going to be
a big project.

Have a great weekend,
Sylvia

Sunbeam blender~Jadite bowls

Having issues is OK....

This Sunbeam blender needs a little
tune-up...

The small Jadite bowl has been glued back
together but that's OK too
Because the whole look is
pretty dang cool!!
I can see it up on my cupboard shelf...

Vintage plates and Enamelware

Hello Friends....

Wow...summer is just about
over for us here in FL.
School starts THIS Wednesday,
the 8th of Aug.

I'm ready to get MY schedule
back on track...haha

It's been crazy hot here but I am
still treasure hunting!!
The plates are keepers since I have a
couple more in my collection.

Love...love the enamel baking dishes
they match perfectly with the enamel table
top that I have for sale at The Antique Emporium.

And who can pass up a pretty wooden shabby frame along with
a green rusty metal tool box?

Did I mention the SS candlesticks?
Found treasure for sure!!

Have a great week...

Yo Yo Quilt

Wow...it's been over a month since my last post!!
My Bad...

Did you get a chance to go to the
Rennigers Garden Show in Mt. Dora
last month?
It was pretty exciting!!
Lots of great vendors with lots and lots and lots
of eye candy.

I bought this beautiful vintage yo-yo quilt from
Joannie.

It's so delicate and sure it
does have some wear and tear...

but it still came home with me.

It's being displayed

ontop of my hutch.

Have a great day,
Sylvia

Rainy days in FL

After a break from Tropical Storm Debby...
I headed outside to see what was
going on in the garden.

Eveything has been growing like crazy..
including the weeds!

This is one of my favorite crinium lilies...

after two days it finally opened up...
it smells divine!!!

The Zebra butterflies are also
enjoying this non rainy afternoon...

My Yucca is standing proud and blooming...

Pink Princess Philodendron is
happy and finally climbing up
that rusty trellis.

Rusty trellises in the yard...

Love the color combination of this dracena.

The ginger is blooming...

A pretty mushroom in the front lawn...

Mandevilla  vine is also enjoying
the rains from the last couple
of days....

So much is happening in the garden,
lots of weeding and trimming to be done.

And the mosquitos are BAD...
I had one fly up and and say...
"hey little girl you look mighty tasty!
lol...

Have a great summer...
