Secret Garden work in progress

78 degrees today with a slight breeze, a perfect day to work on my secret garden. I went plant shopping on Monday and came home with geraniums, Purple flame firespike, Ti plant, Justicia Radiant Flamingo Flower, Firecracker justicia, heuchera, monarda, purple cestrum elegans ohhhhh and I even found a michaela figo(banana shrub)! Since rain is predicted within the next couple of days I figured it was a good day to do some planting.
As you can see I need a lot more plants but I know I will eventually fill the space.  I did shop around for rubber mulch and what I found was very dissapointing. ACE Hardware sells a small bag .8 cubic feet of mulch for $10.50...too small of a bag and the mulch was very thin. Same size bag at Lowes but their price was $9.97 I think. Still pretty pricey! AND as I was getting groceries that same day at SAMS, I found that they also sold big, chunky rubber mulch...a 30 lb. for $8.87. I found this AFTER I had bought my eucalyptus mulch for $2.95a bag. I did want to use the rubber mulch but it was just too pricey for me...I couldn't justify it.   The next step is spreading the mulch and accesorizing with vintage garden junk.  Stay tuned friends.....

P.S. please check out the pretty giveaways from Lola B..One girl talks...her blog has become one of my favs. Check it out.

Everything looks so lovely, we still have snow on the ground. But it is starting to feel like spring. I love to work in the yard. Thanks for sharing.

LOVE it so far and can't wait to see your progress. I have a couple days starting tomorrow and will be visiting Lowes to see that Tiller. Thanks also for the leg work on the rubber mulch.

What wonderful tropical plants - when the Ti plants are full grown you can make grass skirts!
